30 Van Der Berg Cresent, Ganz Plaza, Cape Town
We proudly undertook the construction of a 300-metre breakwater wall adjacent to the railway line near Simonstown Train Station, designed by the City of Cape Town’s engineers. This essential project aimed to reinforce the embankment, addressing damage caused by severe storms that led to the sagging of the concrete plinth supporting the railway.
Utilizing Table Mountain Sandstone boulders, each weighing over 10 tons, we executed a complex operation that involved loading these massive rocks onto train trucks for transportation by rail to the site. Once on location, the boulders were expertly offloaded and placed, creating a robust revetment structure.
This demanding operation spanned three months and was executed with precision and care, ensuring the breakwater could withstand the heaviest of seas for the next century.
The completed breakwater stands as a proud rock memorial, a testament to engineering excellence and a safeguard for the railway and surrounding areas for generations to come.
