This Psychiatric Hospital, built into the mountainside of a beautiful area on top of Helshoogte Pass needed a massive gabion retaining wall to retain a huge excavation for the newly built flank.
They needed the structure to integrate with the natural surroundings to create a serene and tranquil environment for their patients. With the naturally steep incline of this site, we were faced with the challenge of creating a solution that is aesthetically pleasing as well as structurally sound enough to retain a 10 meter clay embankment.
With the expansion of the hospital in 2020, we were awarded the opportunity to once again push the boundaries of industrial chic, incorporating a gabion wall of 10 meters high, using over 800 tons of rock.
